The fashion briefing

Shoe of the week : News that Betty Jackson is taking a year out of her main line will have come as a shock to fans. But Black for Debenhams – one its strongest designer liaisons – continues. FYI: Betty always does a good line in glasses and home stuff too. This month she launches a shoe line for Black, featuring flat tassel loafers, heeled ankle shoe-boots, including these berry ones, and some wedge boots. £65, debenhams.com

Bag alert : Leather and rope look decidedly modern on this rather nice rucksack. The Driscoll, as it is known, is from the debut collection of Stighlorgan, a new label that hails from Ireland and does a fine line in leather and canvas baggage, scarves, hats and belts. It’s the sort of design you might find in Albam or Labour and Wait. There is an outdoorsy theme for autumn, so the knitted bits were made in the hills of Donegal. £150, stighlorgan.com
Lippy luggage : Going by the first collection of luggage by Lulu Guinness, she likes to make an effort on a journey. Cue a lipstick motif and scarlet red colour scheme: clearly not for under-the-radar carousel moments. This week three spinner cases (that’s with wheels, people) go on sale, and travel bags are coming soon. From £195, case-store.com
Look of the week : Introducing ... Bip Ling. She is an art student, DJ, blogger, model and general gal about the London scene. She is also daughter of Tanya Ling, one of the finest fashion illustrators in the business. Anyway: Bip gives good lip. She has chosen an outfit by Anna Stephenson, a fashion designer of Edinburgh University and one of The Briefing’s top picks from the recent graduate fashion week. Floral trousers sound ghastly on paper. In reality, they’re quite nice
New season now : M Missoni is the label’s younger, borderline affordable spin-off. This outfit, from its pre-autumn collection ranges from £429 for the jacket to £264 for the turtleneck. Note: turtlenecks are so very next season, as are dots, orange and the overall 1960s whiff this outfit is giving off. Elsewhere in the collection there are two-tone boots, miniskirts, Peter Pan collars, pinafores and windowpane checks. It’s brand new, it’s retro. selfridges.com
