Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi became acutely aware of the inequalities and ignominies thrusted upon Indians and blacks by the White Man, and chose to free India.
As 'Mahatma' Gandhi, he did not preside over a company, a large conglomerate, or even a party.
He led Indians - 30 crores of them.
Leader of the Nation : By concentrating Indian energy into a focus of non-violence, non-cooperation and self-sustenance, Gandhi was able to channelize public discontent into a constructive not with force but by love. The one trait that was always present in his leadership was love. Love for one and all, friend or foe.
The Revolutionary : Gandhi's method of taking on the British was revolutionary, because it countered a great force with moral belief. His strong belief in Gandhian ethics convinced the nation that he was a man to stand behind.
Selfless Leader : He chose to lead the public for their own good.
Honesty : Once, during a visit by his wife during his time in prison, the couple did not speak to each other. When the jailor inquired about their silence, Gandhi simply replied that the prison rules did not allow them to speak to each other!
Reasonable : Even after stating that India would be divided over his dead body, he realised that partition was inevitable as the only solution to the Hindu-Muslim divide, and accepted it.
