Dublin - The daughter of a well-known Irish Gaelic football manager has been murdered on honeymoon in Mauritius, Irish media reported on Tuesday.
State broadcaster RTE said an autopsy carried out on Tuesday showed 27-year-old Michaela Harte, daughter of manager Mickey Harte, had been strangled. Police in Mauritius said they had launched a murder inquiry and had a list of at least 10 suspects.
Harte, an Irish language teacher who was known for being by her father's side during his All-Ireland football triumphs with the Northern Irish county of Tyrone, was found dead in her room at the Legends Hotel in the village of Grande Gaube on Monday.
RTE quoted Superintendent Yussuf Soopun of the Major Crime Unit in Mauritius as saying Harte's husband, Down footballer John McAreavey, was not being treated as a suspect. The couple had married on December 30.
Gaelic football is Ireland's national game and one of its most popular spectator sports. Its players and support staff enjoy the kind of celebrity status accorded to soccer in countries like Britain.
